POMOR student at the Youth Convention of the Russian Geographical Society

Anastasiia Ovchinnikova (POMOR IX)  took part in the educational program of the Youth Convention of the Russian Geographical Society which took place in the Republic of Tatarstan on October 3-9, 2019. The main topic of the meeting was the historical, cultural and natural heritage of the region reflected in the  activities of youth clubs of the Russian Geographical Society.

Anastasiia shares her impressions:

“During the program we discussed the main topic as well as how to attract young people. Lectures, workshops, round tables and discussions were conducted by invited experts, members of the Branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Tatarstan and representatives of the Executive Directorate of the Russian Geographical Society. As a result, we have created several projects, including environmental and geographical ones, which will be implemented next year. Furthermore, we visited UNESCO sites in Tatarstan - the Kazan Kremlin, the ancient city of Great Bolgar, the island-town of Sviyazhsk and The Volga-Kama Nature Reserve. We also visited the Kazan Federal University and got acquainted with the history of the higher education in Kazan.

We submitted our proposals for preserving the historical, cultural and natural heritage, improving education, developing tourism and recreation in the Resolution of the Youth Convention. For example, it was proposed to prepare guidelines for network events of the RGS Youth Club (intellectual games, meetings of the intellectual club, etc.) and create a public database with these materials. It was also noted the need to develop youth tourism in the Russian regions by reducing tariffs for organized children's tourist groups and simplifying the procedure for arranging organized trips for schoolchildren and students. Other proposals were introduced regarding the use of digital technology to attract young people to the theme of cultural heritage. For more effective results regional executive bodies should take into account the activities of youth clubs and involve them in environmental and educational tasks. The full version of the Resolution will be published on the website of the Russian Geographical Society.

I want to thank the organizers and participants for productive work and inspiration!”
