Physical Oceanography and Instrumentation
Hans Burchard is Professor for Physical Oceanography and Instrumentation at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research in Warnemünde and the University of Rostock (Germany). He is specialised on studying coastal ocean physical processes, mostly by means of numerical models. Hans Burchard is co-developer of the coastal ocean model GETM (General Estuarine Transport Model) and the water column model GOTM (General Ocean Turbulence Model) that includes a library of state-of-the-art turbulence closure models. He is author of more than 120 peer-reviewed journal publications and was awarded with the Alfred Wüst Prize 2019 by the German Society for Marine Research.
